This painting showcases the emotions I have felt during the current pandemic period. With everything virtual, there has been a disconnect from the real world. The background has been painted in a naive style in contrast to the detailed manner of the portrait. By keeping the background simple, I meant the focal point to be the facial features. This self-portrait also has elements of recycled materials, a continuation of my recycled art series. I chose to use CDs because of their reflective properties that are similar to those of a mirror. The broken mirror reflects the disconnect within myself and the disconnect from the world around me
